If you've put off buying a shop vacuum because mid-range models feel flimsy, you're not alone. Many lack the sturdiness and suction of older designs.

What Could Be Improved with the Shop Vac 8-Gallon Model?
Like other modern Shop Vacs, this 8-gallon model has a top handle on the motor head. The latches hold the head to the tank, and the full weight of a loaded tank rides on them when you lift by that handle.
When the tank is full, roll the vacuum on its dolly or lift it by the tank instead. That way the head can't pop off and spill debris.
Empty the tank and clean the filter often. When vacuuming fine sanding dust, use a fine dust filter, since OSHA links wood dust exposure to respiratory problems.
