Review: DeWalt 10-Inch Compact Job Site Table Saw

DeWalt 10-Inch Compact Job Site Table Saw
Contents

A good job site table saw needs to have a few features in order for it to get the job done. It should have a protective frame, a fence that stays square, and a motor strong enough for tough tasks. The DeWalt 10-inch compact job site table saw (DW745) checks those boxes.

The US model has a 15-amp motor that runs at 3,850 RPM with no load. It is compact enough to carry, and its telescoping rails extend for wider rips.

You’ll receive two blade spanners, a parallel fence, a miter fence, and a dust port reducer with this table saw as well.

Here’s What We Liked About the DeWalt 10-Inch Table Saw

With a sharp blade, it gives clean, accurate cuts. Some plywood can still splinter, which is more about the sheet than the saw.

Fence adjustments with this table saw are quick and easy as well. The telescoping design that DeWalt has incorporated into the table saw allows the rails to move out to 20 inches. This allows you to rip a full sheet or retract the rails to take advantage of the compact design this table offers.

You’ll receive a maximum cutting depth of 3-1/8 inches at 90 degrees and 2-1/4 inches at 45 degrees. DeWalt’s manual says the saw is not meant for dado blades or molding cutters.

We also appreciated the dust collection port that has been included with this table saw. It’s a standard 2.5-inch port, allowing you to attach the shop vacuum directly to the tool so that you can create a cleaner working area.

This is a solid tool and one of the best table saws in its class.

Here’s What We Think Could Be Improved with the DeWalt 10-Inch Table Saw

On the whole, DeWalt has put together a pretty good portable table saw that will meet most needs. Our only real issue with this tool is that the blade height mechanism can bind on the user when using the table saw for an extended period of time. Accessories like an added table saw fence might help you handle this.

When it binds, height changes feel rough, and the blade can drop suddenly. Lock the height and check it before each cut, and never adjust it with the saw running.

You may also need to adjust the trunnion mounts to get the blade parallel to the miter slot. Unplug the saw first, and keep the guard and anti-kickback parts installed; OSHA lists spreaders and anti-kickback fingers as key kickback defenses.

The Verdict

If you’re looking for a powerful and portable tool, the DeWalt 10-inch compact job site table saw offers a lot in a portable package. It may not suit heavy, long-term use, but it is a good fit for light- to medium-duty woodworking. This is why it earns our recommendation.
